bayernugs GmbH has applied to the Federal Network Agency for approval to decommission the Wolfersberg natural gas storage facility in accordance with Section 35j of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) with effect from 6:00 a.m. on April 1, 2027. The application includes the legally required proof that the decommissioning of the Wolfersberg gas storage facility will not have any adverse effects on the security of supply in the region, the Federal Republic of Germany, or the European Union.

The underground natural gas storage facility Wolfersberg is situated in Wolfersberg near the village of Oberpfammern in the district of Ebersberg, approximately 20 km south east of Munich.

The underground natural gas storage facility was built in a depleted natural gas reservoir in Lithothamnium limestone. This is located approx. 3,000 metres under ground.Currently the natural gas is held in the under ground storage facility at a maximum pressure of approx. 230 bar.
